Mission Statement:

The Library's mission is to provide the military community effective, professionally administered library service and adequate quantities of current and multimedia materials in all subject fields; to support morale, recreation, education, training programs and military career development. The library seeks to enhance the quality of life for the military community of Fort Meade.

Location

The Fort Meade Post Library is located at 4418 Llewellyn Ave , Ft. Meade , MD 20755 , near the Main Chapel and Lake Burba. The library is wheelchair accessible.The library is a source for information needs on almost any subject and in several different formats. These include books, reference books, current and back issues of magazines and newspapers, current fiction, books on cassettes and cd, children’s and young adult collections, military professional reading list items, education videos, local telephone books, music compact discs, foreign language materials, and test study guides such as CLEP and DANTES. Internet access and many online databases are readily available on the library’s 19 computers, as well as, resume building and word processing software. A children’s library is also located in Potomac Place Community Center.

Loan Policies

Borrowing privileges are limited to the following, with ID cards: Active duty military; Retired military, Military family members; Ft. Meade's Civilian work force; Reservists; National Guardsmen; and students of the Fort Meade Education Center . To register at the Circulation Desk you will need to provide a local address and phone number and your work address and phone number.

All materials are checked out for a period of three weeks. You may renew materials that are not on reserve for another patron. Renewals or reserves may be made by calling Circulation (301-677-4509). You will need to have your User ID and Pin number, which are available at the Circulation Desk (not by phone for security reasons).

Lost or damaged materials must be reported and restitution must be made in accordance with AR735-17, Accounting for Library Materials. When the library is closed, you may place items in the the curbside book drop.

We have over 23,000 volumes for use. These cover practically all subjects as well as standard and current fiction.

Military professional reading lists are available for research.
Books and magazines
are available to support university courses and training programs offered at Ft. Meade. Test study guides: ASVAB, Civil Service, GED, CLEP, DANTE.
Fax/Copy/Scan
FAX machine NOW available(NEW) with basic copying and scanning services.
Internet
The library has 19 computers (including one wheelchair accessible station) for patrons to access the Internet. Library staff is available for assistance.
Children's Room

The Library has a collection of children's/young adult books, videocassettes and periodicals.

Story time
Second and fourth Tuesday of each month, 1000-1100 hours, for preschoolers 2-5 years.
Investments
The Library offers a great selection of investment materials. Wall Street Journal, and Barron's.
